Mary Yuille and Gill Wills have each been working in primary schools for over 20 years. For the past 15 years they have together formed a team writing and producing songs scripts and shows for primary aged children. The collaboration stemmed from a need to find relevant music and words that were suitable to use in school. As this seemed time consuming and difficult, they made the decision to try and write their own. The first few pieces were very well received and from then on they regularly wrote pieces for specific occasions throughout the school year, which became firm favourites with the children. Following the success of the songs, Mary and Gill began to adapt and then finally to write annual Christmas productions for KS1, pantomimes for KS2, and school assemblies.
The songs are easy to learn and appropriate for voices of younger children. The words are chosen specifically to be understandable and within the experience of the children. The enthusiasm and enjoyment of the children can be heard in the demonstrations. All of the ideas are well used, tried and tested. The productions are practical and require minimal upheaval to stage.
Now recently retired, Mary and Gill are hoping to publish a collection of their songs and some of their school productions.
